Denis Stapleton
Denis Stapleton was born in Sutherland and has lived in the Shire all his life. He was the proprietor of Stapleton’s Meats, located opposite Sutherland Railway station, for 35 years. Denis played Rugby League for Sutherland ( then called the grave diggers and now the Pirates) and Junior Representatives for Cronulla. He also played four years Grade for Cronulla. Denis is married with 4 children. He has always been a keen community member of the Sutherland Shire. As well as being a Patron of the Monty Porter Memorial Sports Foundation, Denis is an active Executive member of Sydney South Men of League.
Steve (Jack) Small
Steve Small is a former 1st class cricketer for NSW and Tasmania. He played 90 First class games scoring over 5, 000 runs and playing in 5 Sheffield Shield Finals. He forged a successful Opening Partnership with former Australian Captain Mark Taylor. He was a founding member of the Monty Porter Memorial Sports Foundation. Steve said; “Monty Porter was a standout sportsman and administrator. He encouraged all sportspeople in the St George and Cronulla Sutherland areas, and I feel privileged to be a Patron of the Foundation established in his honour.”
Grant Raper
Grant Raper is the son-in-law of Monty Porter and father of young league player Monty Raper.
Nola Porter
Nola Maureen Porter nee Messiter married Monty Porter on 1961 in Sydney [Rockdale district]. During their five decades together they had three children, Margo, Michael and Caryl (Carolyn) and numerous grandchildren.
